Many thanks Eric & Keith. I will try the thumbe nuts and perhaps 'look' at the steering wheel! The Spedo jumps, and makes a faint ticking noise, so I was going to replace the cable. Also the windcreen wipe box at the drivers side is loose and I cannot get at the securing bolts nor see how it is held on, hence the instrument panel removal idea.
