Most likely cause is the plate has rusted onto the flywheel or pressure plate. If the method suggested does not work then you may need to carefully insert a blade in between them with the pedal depressed. Rally boys have the clutch cover off; but you will need to remove to do this. In bad cases you may even have to loosen some of the clutch bolts. Has happened to me on a few occasions. Try to put the car away dry in the winter. Could also be a fault in the pivot ball. There are two sizes and I have known them to sink into the slot after assembly putting out of adjustment.
