I have used Silicon molded leads for years. However, that is with negative earth, and competition coil. I also tried out electronic ignition without points. Ignition leads do frequently break down. I always carry spares and in damp conditions it can be like a Christmas tree of sparks between leads and anything they come close to. New type leads suffer from stretching so pull off carefully. You should also not run without a spark plug attached as this will open up a track somewhere. Note that distributor caps and rotor arms are frequent causes of breakdown. I carry spares of those as well. Why modern cars do not suffer so badly is not clear. Perhaps the leads are not disturbed so often.
