Clearly the problem is 'downstream' from the brake switch, which is a mechanical device connected to the brake pedal by means of a longish spring. I suspect that you may be able to locate the problem by disconnecting BOTH the rear lights together (just undo the screw at the top of the housing and 'bayonet' them out) , then leave them connected but insulate them from the body with a rag or piece of cardboard. Try again. If the fuse blows the problem is in the wiring between the switch and the lamps. If all is well, reconnect the lamps one at a time until the fault returns. Once you get this far, it should be simple to track down a chafed cable or accidental 'earth' connection within the lamp unit. Good hunting!
