Also the heater will not get hot if the engine is not. In cold weather it is good to put muffs on the front. These also stop icing on the carbs. The winter rally cars often had a radiator blind retractable from inside the car. Of course, both my Javelin and Jup have a thermostatic fan fitted. If you have an oil cooler this MUST have a thermostat in line. Cold oil will knock the bearings unless you have 5-40 viscosit;, but that is possibly not good in an old car.
